| Do
you accept new patients?
Yes,
we always welcome new patients!
I
am a senior on a limited, fixed income. I find dentistry costly and difficult
to budget.
How can you help me?
We offer a discount for seniors. We also accept post-dated payments for
senior patients on a tight budget.
Is
your office able to send dental claims to my insurance company electronically?
Yes! Our office is computerized and we are able to submit your claims
online and have them processed right away.
What
if I have a dental emergency?
We reserve time for emergencies every day; however, we ask that you call
our office as early in the day as possible so that we can best accommodate
your needs. After hours, the dentists' mobile phone numbers are available
on our evening telephone message.
My
previous dentist is always 30 minutes late. Must I be on time at
this office?
Our
team is committed to provide the best patient care. Patients come first.
We do not double-book appointments; and we make every effort to see our
patients at their scheduled time! In return, we expect the same courtesy
from our patients!
How
can I make my teeth brighter?
Our office provides an effective, simple, safe and inexpensive whitening
system. Please ask us if this system is suitable for your needs.
Do
whitening toothpastes work?
They are no better or worse than other toothpastes. Actually, some of
their whitening actions come from abrasive ingredients, which may irritate
gum tissue and cause root surface sensitivity. Don't believe everything
you read in the advertisements!
Are
electric toothbrushes better than hand brushing?
If done properly, hand brushing is very effective. Unfortunately, few
of us have the skills, or the time, to use a hand brush really well.
We frequently see gum-line wear and sensitivity of teeth that is caused
by improper brushing. So, a good quality electric brush will generally
do a better job. Our hygienists are very knowledgeable about oral hygiene
devices and will advise you in making the best choice for your needs.
As well, they will provide instruction so that you will use these devices
correctly at home.
Should
I visit the dentist during pregnancy?
Yes! This is a critical time for the health of your gums. Pregnancy gingivitis
is very damaging if left untreated and can have negative repercussions
that can last a lifetime. In addition, poor oral hygiene has been associated
with lower birth-weight infants. Therefore, it is crucial to see the dentist
and the hygienist for a thorough oral examination and hygiene maintenance
during pregnancy.
Is
it important to fix those baby teeth?
Yes! Dental decay is an infection caused by bacteria and will easily spread
from the baby teeth to the permanent teeth. Even though baby teeth will
fall out at some point, it is extremely important to maintain the health
of these little guys.
At
what age should children first visit the dentist?
Children should be seen at 12 months of age to 3 years. Very young children
are seen in a parent's arms in the dental chair. Our first priority is
to make their first visit a positive and pleasant experience.
What
should I do about my old mercury-containing amalgam fillings?
When you have your teeth checked, all of your fillings are carefully examined.
If your fillings are intact and free of decay, it is best to leave them
alone. Scientific research has failed to demonstrate any evidence linking
amalgams to disease of any kind. Therefore, be wary of people who use
scare tactics to persuade you to replace your old fillings to get rid
of the "poisonous" mercury. In fact, you would need about 250
or more amalgam fillings in your mouth (which is impossible) to reach
the daily maximum mercury exposure and it takes about 1600 years for the
mercury to be released from a filling!
Why
do I have to see the hygienist?
The hygienist is specifically trained to prevent, control and treat gum
disease. Hygiene treatments include "professional scaling".
Scaling removes dental plaque, calculus and stains from tooth and root
surfaces, which patients are unable to remove at home. These surfaces
are inaccessible unless special tools, known as scalers, are used to remove
the bacteria-laden deposits of concrete-like tartar (calculus).
Why
should I maintain healthy gums?
People who maintain healthy gums keep their teeth. People keeping their
teeth are healthier and live longer. In addition, there is growing evidence
of a link between gum disease and diseases like diabetes, heart disease,
pancreatic cancer and problems in pregnancy.
What
are the payment methods?
We
expect payment when service is rendered. Extended payment plans can be
arranged in advance to assist when extensive treatment is required or
if there are financial constraints.
How much time do you require to cancel an
appointment?
Please
provide us with two business days' notice to avoid a charge for a missed
appointment.
